๐Ÿงพ A gentle comparison

What you'd usually be paying for

We won't name names. Their invoices already do.

๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ The usual church software

  • Bills you per member, so you pay more as your church grows
  • Tucks the reports you need behind a shinier "Pro" tier
  • Wants a sales call, payment info, and contact details, before you can see/demo the product
  • Vendor lock-in makes it difficult to migrate to other alternatives
  • Subscriptions and pricing is vague and variable
  • Charges extra for "premium support"

๐Ÿ˜‡ churchit

  • Costs the same at 12 members or 12,000. Nothing.
  • Every report and every module is included on day one
  • Demo instance available and no personal information collected
  • Runs on your server - or in the cloud (if you choose)
  • No subscription renewals - There's nothing to renew.
  • Open community and open code, so you're never held hostage with bait and switch
๐Ÿค” What's the catch?

"Okay, but how is it free?"

Where's the upsell?

There isn't one. churchit is open-source software you host yourself. No seats to buy, no add-ons to unlock, no "contact us for enterprise." The most expensive plan and the cheapest plan are the same (free) plan.

So what does it actually cost to run?

Whatever it costs to run your server (perhaps pennies a day for electricity?). You have the option to pay for cloud hosting, but those payments do not go to us - they are made to your hosting provider. If you choose to pay for SMS messaging, payment gateways, or other third-party services, those costs are out of our control and any associated costs are between you and the provider (other church software ofen bundles these costs and usually charge more than the providers themselves).

Is a free tool going to disappear on me?

The code is yours the moment you download it. If we vanished tomorrow, your church would keep running on the copy you already hold, and exporting your data is easy if you need to switch to a different platform.

What if we outgrow it?

Growth doesn't change the price, and it's built on the Frappe framework which is highly scalable and used by enterprise businesses around the world.
